Raman Spectroscopy
FT-IR is the most traditional technique for the identification of unknown organic materials. Raman spectroscopy also provides information on molecular bonds; however, it yields the best information where IR is least useful. The two techniques are complementary and, in combination, allow the best determinations of the unknown. Differentiating different crystal forms of the same material is a particular strength. By coupling this spectrometer with a confocal microscope we can determine depth profiles and get information from under the surface.
